Drywall Finisher


PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Seals joints between plasterboard or other wallboards to prepare wall surface for painting or papering.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

Mixes sealing compound by hand or with portable using trowel, broadknife, or spatula. Presses paper tape over joint to embed tape into compound and seal joint or tapes joint, using mechanical applicator that spreads compound and embeds tape in one operation. Spreads and smooths cementing material over tape, using trowel or floating machine to blend joint with wall surface. Sands rough spots after cement has dried. Fills cracks and holes in walls and ceiling with sealing compound. May install metal molding at corners in lieu of sealant and tape. May apply texturing compound and primer to walls and ceiling preparatory to final finishing, using brushes, roller, or spray gun.

REQUIREMENTS:

Workers should be able to: Direct or plan an activity; Attain set limits or standards; Do simple arithmetic accurately; See differences in form and surfaces; and make decisions based on measurable standards. Physically, workers must be able to: See well (naturally or with correction); Climb and/or maintain balance; Stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; Reach for, handle, and manipulate objects; Lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds or more; and work at heights. Completion of apprenticeship program required.
